A PICKERING cafe has held a fundraising event for Marie Curie.

Russell’s Café raised more than £100 after dedicating a day to the charity. Staff adorned the café with banners, balloons and collection buckets. The event proved such a hit that it was extended for a second day.

Café manager Gary Russell, who match-funded the total collected, said: “My mother-in-law, Carole Grayson, has been an avid fan of the charity for many years, helping out at events and during campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal so I thought it would be a great way to support her fundraising endeavours. Our Marie Curie day was a resounding success and everyone who visited the café donated generously.”

Emma Williams, community fundraiser for Marie Curie, said: “It was great to see the café decorated in yellow – Gary and his team put in a lot of effort and hard work. Having local businesses like Russell’s café fundraising for Marie Curie makes a huge difference and helps ensure we can continue to provide care and support for those suffering a terminal illness.”
