AUTHORITIES are stepping up action to stop an increase in antisocial behaviour in Rillington.

The pavilion, play equipment and benches at the village’s recreational ground have been vandalised, excrement was recently found in the children’s play-area, and littering has also become a problem at the site.

Incidents have also recently been reported elsewhere in the village including at Woodlands and Low Moor end.

New councillor Nathan Garbutt Moore for Rillington on Ryedale District Council (RDC), said he was working with the police and patrols in the area are due to start.

“From speaking to people and from the many emails I have received it’s clear people are fed up and would like some pride back in the village,” he added.

“ I will be coordinating a series of litter picks with the Parish Council, the police will be patrolling the area and there could be possible prosecutions for those responsible.”

Cllr Garbutt Moore said Rillington Parish Council plan to purchase some fitness equipment and replace signage at for the recreational ground.

“I am hopeful that with a multiagency approach and fantastic community spirit we will return the recreational ground to great place for all to visit,” he added.

“ I would ask that anyone who knows of antisocial behaviour in the area to contact police on 101 and report their concerns.”

PC Jane Jones, of Malton Police, said: “ Over the last couple of months damage has been caused to Rillington recreational ground.

“Police are working with councillors to try to establish who has caused this damage.

“I urge local residents to contact 101 if they see any youths causing damage or have any info.

PC Jones said: “ The Parish Council are trying to improve the area but they are concerned that it might get vandalised again.”

“Local PCSO and police will patrol the area and engage with any youths present.”

Cllr Garbutt Moore will be organising a litter pick in Rillington this Saturday, September 21.
