GAS repairs lasting 10 weeks got under way in Norton this week.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is spending £150,000 on replacing old metal pipework with more durable plastic pipes.

Work is scheduled to last for about 10 weeks and will be carried out in two phases when it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management.

Phase one, which began on Monday is from the junction of Welham Road to Wold Street with a lane closure in place along Church Street.

Phase two will begin on October 14. There will be two-way rolling traffic lights in Commercial Street, from the junction of Wold Street to the junction of Wallgates Lane. These will be in place for five weeks.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Pete Knapton, network officer for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with North Yorkshire Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”
