STUDENTS and staff celebrated another brilliant set of sixth form results at Norton College.

Phil Loftus, head teacher, said: “The college is known for being really clear about its mission - to give all students the opportunity to secure a place at university or secure a career of their choice and for the Class of 2019 it is mission accomplished.

“This year more students than ever before entered the world of employment, secured jobs or began their career studying higher level apprenticeships.

“Those that wanted to progress to a university place were able to secure places with courses including criminology, law, history, sport, film production and teaching.”

Bradley Thompson, who lives in Helperthorpe, said he was happy with his results and was now going to study law.

His friend Guy Drabble, from Norton, is also going to university for a degree in marketing.

Alice Stubbings, from Helperthorpe, secured the grades she needed to study law at Durham University.

She said: “I’m really pleased I have got the results I need, and I eventually hope to be a solicitor.”

All heading to York St John are Charlotte Sellers, to study primary school teaching, Lauren Kirby, who is doing criminology, and Eleanor Whaley to study history.

Dr Simon Carson, deputy head in charge of sixth form, said: “It is so pleasing to see a set of strong results across all our subjects.

“Staff are very experienced and know how to help our students prepare, and I feel privileged to work with both students and their teachers at Norton College.”

Gemma McDonald, head of sixth form, said: “I am really proud of all the hard work and effort that the students have put into achieving such great things.

“We could not be more proud of what staff and students have achieved.”
