A METHODIST chapel, which has been given a makeover, has celebrated its reopening with the community.

Gillamoor Methodist Chapel, which is rented by Gillamoor Primary School, welcomed villagers to the celebration on March 9.

The necessary funds were raised mainly from donations by charitable trusts, sponsored bike rides and community events.

The internal lay-out has been altered, a new toilet installed, kitchen sink and new heating, lighting and decoration.

Jane Harper, chairman of Governors, said: “We faced many obstacles and delays, but the school will make great use of the extra space as another classroom, a wet weather gym for the infants and as a drama and concert area both for us and for the community. We hope, now it is a viable and versatile venue, that perhaps could host travelling drama groups and art exhibitions.”

As well as the coffee morning opening, the school will thank members of the trusts when they stage a performance in the summer.
