PLANNING permission has been granted for a £350,000 five-star glamping venue in Ryedale.

The Private Hill, which is due to open at the beginning of June, is the brainchild of Roddy and Jane Hamilton, and will be situated at Thrussendale Farm in Acklam.

Each of the Geodesic Domes on the site will come complete with mains power, running water and full en-suite shower room with flushing toilet.

They will also include king-sized beds or two large twins, along with a log burner and a fully stocked mini bar.

Each dome comes complete with a small kitchenette.

There will also be a large reception dome, known as Jane’s Dome, that will be home to the breakfast and lunch restaurant, also serving afternoon tea, evening canapés and cocktails, and will have a large screen TV and a soft seating area.

Roddy, who breeds pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle on the farm, has named each of the domes after one of his prize pedigrees. Steaks from his home-grown herd will be available to buy in the small shop onsite, and will be able to be cooked on the communal barbecue. The shop will also sell home-baked cakes made by Jane and many other delicacies from local suppliers.

Roddy said: “This is a very exciting time for us. The Private Hill will be one of only a few developments of its kind in the UK, and the only one in the North.

“Our domes will be of the highest quality from Europe’s leading supplier, and will be furnished to the most relaxing and sumptuous level, with all mod cons and the best of everything.”

“Local produce and suppliers will be key to our café, breakfast and afternoon tea offering and we aim to create a number of jobs in the

area.

“We would like to thank Ryedale District Council for their support on this venture, which we are sure will be a boost to the local economy as it encourages more visitors to our beautiful village and area.”

Roddy said The Private Hill will also be available for private events, group bookings and weddings once open.

“The development involves an investment of £325,000 and as it is set on the edge on the North Yorkshire Wolds, ensures the perfect combination of well being, outdoors, nature, history, luxury and privacy.”
