LAUGH your way into the New Year, thanks to new regular comedy nights in Malton.

The Milton Rooms will be welcoming a raft of comedians to the historic venue, including a stand-up poet and a pair of Edinburgh Fringe veterans.

Where There’s Muck There’s Bras on Saturday, February 9, is a comic and thought-provoking show from Kate Fox about the real Northern Powerhouse – northern women.

The funny, gently subversive performance from this stand-up poet uncovers the hidden history of the writers, scientists, sportswomen, politicians, protestors, musicians, innovators, activists and other heroines who represent the grit, determination and spirit of the North’s women.

They include Britain’s first astronaut Helen Sharman, the first female speaker of the House of Commons, Betty Boothroyd, and the lesser known Lilian Bader, one of the first black women in the RAF.

Meanwhile, funny bones will also be well and truly tickled by Hilarity Bites who present Lee Kyle on Friday, February 1, and then Patrick Monahan on Friday, March 1.

Lee Kyle arrives in the middle of his tour, titled Kicking Potatoes into the Sea, which sees him talk about the highs and lows of his life with a lightness of touch that has seen him previously earn a five star Edinburgh Fringe rating.

He will be followed exactly a month later by Patrick Monahan and his brand-new stand-up show, #Goals.

One of the hardest-working comedians in the UK, Patrick has appeared all over Europe as well as Dubai, Bahrain and on TV shows such as Celebrity Squares, Fake Reaction and The Wright Stuff.

Merryn Wilderspin, Chair of Trustees at the Milton Rooms, said: “We are very excited to be welcoming Kate, Lee and Patrick to the Milton Rooms. We hope our comedy nights will become a popular attraction for people who want to have the dark nights illuminated by some of the best comedians in the business.”
