A MAN in his early 40s has died in a crash that closed a North Yorkshire road for nearly six hours.

The man, who comes from York, was driving north along the A168 towards Thirsk on Friday evening.

He was at the wheel of a black Vauxhall Insignia involved in a collision in roadworks on the A168 south of its junction with the A170 at about 6.45pm.

Police have appealed for eye witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the car before the crash to contact them.

The road was closed until shortly after midnight while police and emergency services dealt with the incident and carried out initial investigations.
