Significant of these is the railway which linked Gilling East to Malton, York and hence the rest of the country. Village shops, school and a post office within accessible walking distance, are also gone. By looking at the past, present and future, participants reflected upon what has changed, good and bad, but also considered how the future might be, and what could be done to protect what is most valued and cherished and how local communities can influence and shape the future. Over time a charter document will be produced representing the democratic combined wishes of the community. Further meetings will be arranged next year.
