CLASSICAL music lovers have a treat in store at Scarborough Symphony Orchestra’s concert on November 24 with a performance of one of the most difficult cello concertos in the repertoire by rising young star, Michael Petrov.

Bulgarian-born cellist Michael has been wowing audiences internationally with his “meltingly warm, smooth tone and easy virtuosity.”

Michael, 28, will play Shostakovich’s first Cello Concerto – the same work that earned him the Guildhall School of Music’s Gold Medal in London in 2014.

Since then Michael has performed around the world in major concert halls including, Paris, Vienna, Budapest, New York, Los Angeles, and toured throughout China.

Michael said: “I hope that the audience will see my passion for the music.”

This is the opening concert of the orchestra’s new season. It will also include performances of Brahms’s Variations on a Theme by Haydn and Symphony No.8 by Dvorak.

“We are privileged to have soloists of the calibre of Michael Petrov wanting to play with us in Scarborough and the rest of the season will bring more wonderful individuals to join us,” said Shaun Matthew, the orchestra’s Musical Director.

All concerts take place at the Queen Street Methodist Hall in Scarborough at 7.15pm. Tickets are available at www.scarborough-orchestra.co.uk, or at the door on the night.
