POLICE are appealing for information after a car they were pursuing was involved in a collision with a tractor.

A spokesperson said: "On Saturday morning around 10.35am we sighted a suspicious looking vehicle near Thornton le Dale.

"When we tried to speak to the occupants, they failed to stop for us.

"A short pursuit followed, ending when the vehicle collided with a tractor near to Ebberston. As a result of the collision the tractor overturned.

"The driver the suspect vehicle was arrested, one of his passenger's suffered serious injuries. Nobody else was seriously hurt."

They added: "Five dogs which were in the vehicle were seized under the Animal Welfare Act and taken to a vet for treatment."

The road remained closed until 5pm to allow for a full investigation of the scene and to clear a large amount of fuel from the carriageway.

Anyone who witnessed any of the incident should phone 101 and ask to speak to Traffic Constable 1881 Mark Patterson or Inspector Dave Barf in the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
