A FUNDRAISING event is being held this weekend to raise funds to restore Terrington’s ancient sundial.

Earlier this year it was decided that a programme of repairs and conservation were needed to make safe and record details of the sundial and clock on All Saints Church.

The sundial had significant open cracks radiating from a central point, spalling to the top, and a considerable portion of stone missing around the bottom of the gnomon.

To raise funds towards the appeal to conserve the sundial, an afternoon tea and concert by Kirkbymoorside Youth Band is being held on Saturday, from 4pm, at Terrington Village Hall.

Ian Hughes, one of the organisers, said: “The sundial is an important element of Terrington village heritage and really needs looking after.”

Tickets are £10 or £25 for a family ticket and available from Terrington Stores. There will also be a raffle and bar.
