THIS week I met a lovely couple who are launching a new venture in Malton. It’s a brand new event catering and private dining business with a very interesting twist.

As well as offering delicious food for weddings, parties and all types of private events, Dom’s Kitchen will also offer a bespoke dining space for up to 12 guests to have the dinner party of their dreams cooked before their eyes.

Book Dom’s Kitchen and you will have complete freedom to devise your own menu from cocktails and canapes to starters and puddings (and everything in between).

If you love throwing a dinner party, love choosing the food, but don’t like the fuss of actually cooking (and washing up for that matter) then Dom’s Kitchen should be right up your street.

Based in a new unit in Navigation Wharf, Dom’s Kitchen is the creation of charming husband and wife team Dom and Emma O’Connor. Both passionate about food and hospitality, Dom can be found (you guessed it) in the kitchen and Emma looks after “front of house”.

Located just down the hill from York House wedding venue alongside the River Derwent, their new unit has been specially designed to be a practical and stylish kitchen at the back with a seriously beautiful dining space at the front. Exposed wooden beams sit proudly with exposed stone brickwork and wooden floors, plus I spotted a cool and chunky wooden pew. Farrow and Ball colours lend taste and depth and the whole experience is topped off with some very funky lighting.

So, it’s your own private dining room then, which Dom explains is quite a trend right now.

One of the big plusses of Dom’s Kitchen is that unlike in a restaurant where you have to compete for attention with other diners, at Dom’s Kitchen you have the complete and total attention and service of Dom and Emma from start to finish. Oh and you get to choose the menu from top to toe.

Ever wanted a spooky Halloween dinner party, a Mexican night, a medieval feast or a classic French gastronomic evening? Well now you can with Dom and Emma - and you don’t even have to bother cooking or cleaning.

Delving a little deeper to get more of a backstory. Dom and Emma, whose first passion was always for food, met at catering college (naturally) and have been doing food together ever since; putting their love for great food and proper service into every meal or event they put on.

Dom said: “I never saw myself doing anything else. We are really excited to become a part of Yorkshire’s Food Capital. We are looking forward to expanding our business and Malton feels like the perfect place in which to do it.”

With a quiet riverside setting and lots of parking right outside the door, it seems Dom’s Kitchen has just made your dinner party plans a whole lot easier.

Emma distils the spirit of the business brilliantly saying, “We try and recreate the best meal you have ever had and then try to do it even better.”

Dom and Emma, what more can you want!

Navigation Wharf is fast becoming a busy food production hub; Costellos and YO Bakehouse both have their production units in this creative corner of Malton and very soon Malton Brewery will become one of the UK’s smallest commercial breweries, once production begins at Navigation Wharf later this year.

Dom and Emma intentionally chose to set up this new venture in Yorkshire’s Food Capital with its easy access to the region’s finest ingredients. No doubt then we will see them both at Malton Monthly Food Market when it returns on Saturday, October 13, with a superb autumnal offering of stalls, street food and foodie fun.
