A RYEDALE farm shop is among the ‘Great Taste’ food award winners of 2018.

Out of over 12,600 judged products, Beadlam Grange Farmshop & Butchery near Helmsley was awarded two one-star Great Taste awards for its homebred and reared Limousin Sirloin and Fillet Steak.

The Great Taste judges’ comments included: “The texture was very appealing – melt in the mouth. Good looking piece of steak with a generous amount of fat, great juicy texture giving good complexity and depth. The steak comes from a majestic beast, we imagine.”

Great Taste is a food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers that is judged by over 500 food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, producers, food writers and journalists.

Angela Rooke, of Beadlam Grange, said: “We decided to enter our steaks for this year’s Great Taste Awards because we truly believe in their excellent quality. We’re proud that we have complete control of the Limousin beef we produce from the day it’s born to the day it appears in the butchery giving us and most importantly our customers the full traceability and transparency they expect.”

There were 12,634 entries into Great Taste this year. Of those products, 192 have been awarded a three-star, 1,207 received a two-star and 3,254 were awarded a one-star accolade.
