SEVERAL pigs died as a lorry overturned on the A1079 in East Yorkshire this morning (July 10).

Humberside Police said it was called at 7.05am to reports that a lorry had overturned on the A1079 just after the Market Weighton roundabout.

The lorry was transporting pigs and several of them died in the collision, Humberside Police has confirmed.

It said the driver was not injured.

According to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, the lorry was carrying more than 200 pigs.

The road was closed to allow recovery of the overturned lorry and to safely move the remaining livestock into another vehicle.

It is now fully open.
