THIS year Malton has events galore. More happenings, more things to do and more reasons to keep coming back.

The Cajun Festival has already danced past and the photos of the Mardi-Gras outfits looked hilarious. There was also the Easter eggstravaganza, which I hope will now become an annual event. How brilliant to see so many beautiful motorbikes and leather-clad "knights of the road" in the Market Place. Malton was almost made for this type of event.

Malton Monthly Food Market is back on April 9, from 9am to 3pm, and as always it is so much more than just a market. With the amazing Malton White Star brass band entertaining each month there is enough music, live chef demonstrations, fabulous stalls and fun for all.

Also this month is Malton’s craft beer festival "Beertown". Now in its third year Beertown will have more beer, cider and craft ale on tap than ever before. Run by Made In Malton brewers Bad Seed and Brass Castle Breweries, this properly authentic beer festival is turning into one of the most sought after beer events in the country. It all happens on April 22 and 23.

As I write we are making final preparations for the biggest and best Malton Food Lovers Festival ever. With a stellar line up of chefs, including the star of TV’s The Real Marigold Hotel, Rosemary Shrager, chef Valentine Warner, Telegraph food writer Rose Prince, Michelin-star chef James Mackenzie and lots more still to be announced. As always there’ll be masses of live bands, stalls, street food, cookery lessons plus the festival bar and a Saturday night party.

New for summer will be the Talbot Yard barbecue, which is being put on by the food producers there and will run straight after the summer monthly markets have ended. Barbecue, beer and music, what’s not to like? The first one will be on Saturday, June 11. On July 3 there will be a classic car rally going through town, organised by the Malton Motor Club, The White Rose Classic will be amazing.

As autumn arrives we have the Malton Game and Seafood Festival on September 10 with some very famous names planning to attend and that same weekend the Malton Stables open event will continue to promote Malton as a home for world class thoroughbred racing.

In October the Ryedale Book festival returns. With visits from Michael Morpurgo and Miriam Margolyes, the book festival, which has really taken off in the last couple of years, will be better than ever.

So, although you can enjoy Malton for its amazing food shopping, Talbot Yard Food Court and the Cookery School, it’s also becoming famous for the top class events, which just keep getting better. Towns were made to be full of life so we’re always looking to help bring new events to Malton. If you want to start one, contact us and we can help you make your new festival become a reality.
