A PAINTING by David Hockney is expected to fetch up to £2million at auction next week.
The 75-year-old artist now lives mainly in Los Angeles, but has a long history with Bridlington, where he has returned several times a year to gain inspiration for his work.
Arranged Felled Trees was painted by the artist in 2008, and has been described as "a joyful example of David Hockney's legendary depictions of the bucolic landscape of East Yorkshire".
The piece has been exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, and features two stacks of cut logs drawing the eye to a central tree stump.
Art historian Marco Livingstone said the painting and its companions were "the most commanding he [HOCKNEY] has ever made", and the painting will be put up for auction by Sotheby's on July 1.
