ORGANISERS of a local show which has been running for more than 100 years are appealing for more volunteers.

Members of the Farndale Show committee are on the hunt for more volunteers as well as a livestock secretary to help with secretarial duties and the organising of the popular show which has become a Ryedale favourite over the past 107 years it has been held.

Show secretary Beryl Smith said that she hopes people who love the show will get involved so that it can continue. “It is a small, popular traditional show and we need people to get involved to keep it going for many more years to come,” she said.

“We are hoping to recruit people who are interested in becoming an official and who will have a few hours spare in the months leading up to the show.”

Beryl went on to say that August is a particularly busy month for the organisers as the show date nears so volunteers would ideally be able to dedicate their time to the show in the run up to it.

The committee has about 20 members and Beryl said that the current volunteers have been fantastic.

From January, the organisers are also looking for a new livestock secretary.

Farndale Show is held on the showfield at Church Houses and features cattle, sheep, goats, horses, showjumping and a gymkhana.

There are also fur and feather tents, farm and dairy produce, flowers, vegetables and children’s arts and crafts on display. The vintage tractor display proves to be a hit year on year and this year there was a sheep shearing demonstration and a display by Les Dixon of Mountgrace Gun Dogs.
