A UNIVERSITY student has completed a seven-day 130-mile tour of medieval civil engineering – on foot.
Robert Anderton ran from Alnwick Castle in Northumberland to Clifford’s Tower, York, taking in The Keep, Newcastle and Durham Castle en route, as well as crossing the Tyne Bridge.
“I’m feeling it now,” he said, after a beer and a sports massage to celebrate. “I wanted to do a week of running, so I started looking at ways and routes where I could run.”
The idea of a castle run caught his imagination and the seven-day marathon was on. Wherever possible he ran along roads with little traffic.
It was part of his fundraising efforts for a trip to Borneo next March. Together with 19 other civil engineering students from Newcastle University, he will be designing and laying a water system to pipe water to two villages in the country.
He has to raise £2,300 to take part and has now reached £1,800.
Robert, 22, of Welburn, is currently completing a masters degree in civil engineering.
