Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman and Sir Kenneth Branagh have made the list of nominations for the Golden Globe 2022 awards.

On December 13 the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the full list of nominees.

Cumberbatch has been nominated for best actor in a drama prize for his role in Jane Campion’s film, The Power Of The Dog alongside Mahershala Ali, Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Javier Bardem.

Colman is up against Kristen Stewart, Jessica Chastain, Lady Gaga and Nicole Kidman in the best actress in a drama category.

She is nominated for her role in The Lost Daughter.

Sir Kenneth is nominated in best director category for his autobiographical film, Belfast, about his childhood in Northern Ireland, while the film’s supporting stars Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds and Caitriona Balfe are also recognised.

Other stars that made the list are Kate Winslet for her performance in Mare Of Easttown, Cynthia Erivo for her work as Aretha Franklin on the series Genuis, Paul Bettany for Marvel series WandaVision, Ewan McGregor for Halston; Nicholas Hoult for The Great and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein.

The annual awards ceremony will not be televised after network NBC dropped the show following backlash over the HFPA's lack of diversity in the organisation.

It emerged there were no black members in the HFPA and President Helen Hoehne, admitted it has been a “year of change and reflection” as she introduced the nominations for the 2022 ceremony, adding; “For eight months we have worked tirelessly as an organisation to be better.”

The winners of the awards will be announced on January 9, 2022, but without the red carpet event.
