The two contenders in the race to Number 10 were asked what made them laugh at a hustings in Nottingham.

Mr Johnson said: “The Pink Panther, I have to admit, I think is incredibly funny. It’s fantastically funny, I almost retch with laughter when watching the Pink Panther.

“Dodgeball – brilliant movie.

“Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t make me laugh, we shouldn’t laugh at him, because he is in fact a deeply sinister guy.”

The former foreign secretary highlighted Mr Corbyn’s links with Irish republicans and his support for “some of the most hideous regimes in the world”.

Mr Johnson added: “We cannot let him into power… we are a great party, we are going to get this Brexit thing done, it’s going to be a great success, we are going to recover belief in ourselves.

“We are going to kick Jeremy Corbyn well over the gasometer.”

Giving his response to the question, Foreign Secretary Mr Hunt said: “What made me laugh most recently was going on holiday to Scotland with my five-year-old daughter, who is a bit of a thespian and does the most amazing Scottish accent.”

He added: “I think I would have to say my kids.”
