A community library set up to replace infrequent visits by a mobile library has given reading a boost in a village near Harrogate.

In the last year of its operation, the mobile library to Darley was used by only 36 people and issued less than 900 books and other items. But the new Darley Community Library now has more than 100 members, and has issued more than 1,200 books in the first year of its operation.

Darley Community Library will be celebrating its first birthday on National Libraries Day, Saturday 9 February. Villagers are invited to visit the library – at Christ Church Community Centre – between 10am and 11am to enjoy a birthday cake and a browse the books.

The Community Library is open on Mondays, from 6pm to 7pm; Tuesdays from 11.30am to 12.30pm, 1.30pm to 2.30pm and 6pm to 7pm; Thursdays from 10am to 11am and 7pm to 8pm; and on Saturdays from 10am to 11am.
