Elvington businessman Tom Fitzpatrick popped a cork at the reopening of Sutton Bridge.
Mr Fitzpatrick and some of his customers celebrated the bridge being open again yesterday, after it had been shut for six weeks for repair works.
The owner of Elvington Village Stores said the closure, after a lorry damaged the bridge between Sutton-on-Derwent and Elvington in January, had dramatically affected business.
The Grade II-listed bridge was closed for an initial period of four weeks following the accident and then had to be closed again for six weeks.
Mr Fitzpatrick said it had caused his business to run at 35 per cent down each week.
“I just want to celebrate and tell the public that it’s open again,” he said.
