THERE’S a perfect cure for pre-school tots who reach the fidgety phase: Teach them French!

Lucy Amos, of Ainsty Avenue, York, a language graduate, qualified teacher and, as she puts it “a mother of two fidgets” has steered a successful business on that principal.

French For Fidgets provides French language classes for children aged two to five – and their parents at the same time. And the way she has done it means that she is a serious contender for the Women In Enterprise title.

Lucy said: “I wanted to create an interesting and rewarding job which would allow me to be there at the beginning and end of the school day for my own children.

“Not only have I achieved this for myself, but I have also created jobs for another five women who also want to combine stimulating work with a caring family role.”

Having taught 20 pre-school children in her first year, the figure in the second year leapt to 200 and 40 per cent growth in profits is expected, all of which will be re-invested in the business.

She said: “I would love French For Fidgets to win the Women In Enterprise Award because it would give me a great opportunity to inspire other women to do what I have done, namely create my own job under my own terms because I could not find what I was looking for on the traditional jobs market.

“There are thousands of highly-educated, talented women who would love to be able to work part-time whose skills are not being used and I would love to be able to show them what they could do.”
