A motorcyclist was last night in a serious condition in hospital following a collision on the A64.

The woman was thrown from her bike on to the carriageway after colliding with the central barrier on the A64 near the Fulford Interchange, police said.

The A64 was closed in both directions after the crash at 1pm to allow the air ambulance to land and transport the woman, 51 and from the Castleford area, to Leeds General Infirmary.

The A64 was fully reopened more than two hours after the crash and the slip road from the A19 on to the A64 was reopened at about 4.30pm.

No other vehicles were involved, police said.

Traffic was disrupted between the A1(M) and York and was understood to have been particularly congested in the Bishopthorpe Road, Tadcaster Road and Fulford areas of the city.
