AIDAN Rawftler announced his arrival in the Northern Power Grid York and District Table Tennis League by claiming two notable scalps for Holgate ‘A’ in their opening game in division one.
His victories over Paul Robertson and Nathan Horsley were not enough, however, to prevent RI ‘A’ winning 7-3, for whom Mick Wilcockson was unbeaten.
Chris Londesborough was the top player as he guided Coneysthorpe ‘B’ to a narrow win over Crescent.
Bootham ‘A’s Jimmy Mills had an epic battle as he overcame Joel Wright, but champions Coneysthorpe ‘A’ won the remaining games to run out 9-1 victors, Ashley Hodgson and Martin Lowe successful.
In division two, Richard Ingleby and Rich Harrison proved too good for Tramways as their Bootham ‘C’ side enjoyed a 9-1 romp.
John Flintoft steered Shepherds ‘C’ to a close victory over RI ‘E’, while Bootham ‘B’ enjoyed an 8-2 success over RI ‘F’ thanks to Dave Rawlings and Ady McClaren.
David Dunn announced his arrival in division three with three singles wins as his RI ‘G’ side edged home against Bootham ‘E’, while Howard Broadbent, Terry Botting and Dave Norville enjoyed a whitewash of Holgate ‘D’.
Shepherds ‘D’ beat a two-man BT ‘B’ 9-1, while Ray Mitchell and Pete Corner were the star men as Bootham ‘F’ overcame Aviva ‘A’ 8-2.
Jan Suchecki’s three wins for Bootham ‘G’ were not enough to prevent a 7-3 defeat to Aviva ‘B’ in division four.
Holgate ‘E’ thrashed RI ‘K’ 10-0, with Tom Lines, Pete Waring and Keith Hood remorseless.
Thornton-le-Clay only needed two players to chop down Hartrigg Oaks 7-3, with Trevor Percival and Neil Lynch wielding the axe.
