YOUNGSTERS who took part in a York Stories 2012 project have received their certificates.

York Stories 2012 is a major city-wide community project which, as part of York 800, aims to encourage people to create and share stories that are personal and unique to the city.

In a series of workshops, spread across three weeks, pupils from St Aelred’s RC Primary School spent time with residents from Woolnough House care home in Tang Hall learning about their experiences.

The children prepared questions to ask residents before putting pen to paper. They then worked closely with the residents to develop the final story.

At the last session, the children were recorded reading out the story they had written about “their” resident.

The stories are now being shared with the public on yorkstories2012.com

Coun Sonja Crisp, of City of York Council, said: “York Stories 2012 will provide a lasting legacy of York 800, so it’s great to see children working with older people to capture lasting memories of York.”
