THE York Guildhall Orchestra is marking York 800 with a concert featuring music, musicians, soloists and composers who have connections with the city.

The concert, which takes place at York Barbican on October 20, will feature A Fanfare For York, composed by local composer Dick Blackford especially for the event.

Lynne Dawson, internationally renowned soprano and orchestra president, along with virtuoso violinist Nicholas Wright, will be soloists. And following last year’s popular John Barry celebration concert, the orchestra will perform the late York-born composer’s theme from the film Born Free.

Geoff Egginton, one of the orchestra violinists, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the celebrations in York.

“York800 is a very special event and this will be a special evening.”
