YORK’S Festival of the Rivers, which began last weekend, will continue until July 22.
The event aims to celebrate the heritage of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, from their Roman and Viking connections to their sporting and leisure opportunities, and activities on offer throughout the festival include taster sessions in canoeing, a special challenge by Excalibur Diving Club to retrieve 800 items from the river - tying in with the York 800 celebrations - and the River of Memories exhibition on the Syntan Barge moored at Kings Staith.
There will also be a junior fishing competition, a special York Walk looking at the history of the Port of York and a model boat regatta in Rowntree Park. Full details are at yorkfestivals.com.
