A YOUNG dog that was found with horrific facial injuries is looking for a new home after members of the public helped fund £1,000 for reconstructive surgery.

When Amos the Staffordshire terrier cross was found in somebody’s back garden and brought into the RSPCA animal rehoming centre in York he had suffered severe injuries to his lower jaw, thought to have been sustained in illegal dog fighting.

Angela Hunter, York branch manager of the RSPCA, said she believed the dog could have received the wounds a week before he was found.

After The Press printed an appeal to help fund urgent surgery, the RSPCA received donations of £933 towards the cost.

The money enabled one-year-old Amos to undergo two operations to reconstruct his face.

Minster Vets repaired the wounds using what skin was left as well as skin grafts to reshape Amos’s face.

Now Amos is ready for adoption and a new home.

He is described as a friendly, good-natured dog and not much more than a pup, and would ideally suit a home with no other pets.

Thanking people for their support, Angela said: “The operations went very well. He still has a bit of an open wound and always will but the vets have done all they can. He really needs a new home and we are just waiting for the right people to take him home.”
