CITY of York Athletics Club ace Richard Buck is heading for the Olympic trials with another sub-46 second 400 metres under his belt.

The 25-year-old clocked 45.96 seconds at the Moscow Challenge in the Russian capital, hot on the heels of his new outdoor personal best of 45.61 seconds set in Geneva earlier this month.

Russia’s Vladimir Krasnov won Buck’s race at the Luzhniki Stadium in 45.68 seconds, while the second one-lap race was won by another Russian, Pavel Trenikhin, in 45.51 seconds.

Buck said: “I wanted more, but realistically with the travel it’s a good run. Next stop trials.”

The Aviva 2012 Olympic Trials are being held in Birmingham between Friday, June 22 and Sunday, June 24.

Buck is a man in form having achieved the Olympic ‘B’ standard with his personal best run at the European Athletic Promotion in Geneva. He also broke the 46-second barrier in Germany last month.

In February, he set a new career mark indoors, clocking 45.88 seconds to win the national 400m at the Aviva Grand Prix.

That was a precursor to claiming a silver medal as part of Great Britain’s 4 x 400m relay team at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Turkey.
