TWO matches survived the deluge in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League division one as unbeaten Poppleton met title challengers Fulford.

Sean Evans and Eleanor Bradshaw maintained their unbeaten record for Fulford to secure the points and move into second place.

But York are favourites for the title after they beat last year’s trophy winners Dunnington.

Wigginton are now one of only nine unbeaten teams in the league in division two as they saw off the challenges of Bubwith and Copmanthorpe.

Stamford Bridge registered their first win after promotion last season with a win at Poppleton led by the unbeaten Robin Bedford and Elaine Hilton. Rob Williams and Fran Critchley led Bishopthorpe’s win against Poppleton.

Dominico Rougai and Lauren Grant won all three rubbers for York to lift their team to second place in division five in a tight match at Cawood.

Alne got the better of Wetherby Castlegarth thanks to the husband and wife duo of Dave and Angie Pearson winning all three sets.

Bishopthorpe have opened up a gap at the top of division six after James Winspear and Ellie Page led the team to the win against closest rivals Wilberfoss and the points at Cawood.

Division seven has closed up after previously unbeaten Tadcaster went down to New Earswick, while Nick Hobson and Fiona Lambert were unbeaten as they helped Sutton-on-Derwent to the points at York.

Top scorers of the week were James and Jennifer Hunt of Stamford Bridge as they had a big win against Tollerton in division eight.

Wigginton bagged their first win at Fulford led by unbeaten Ben King and Pauline Wregglesworth.

An experienced Dunnington side headed by Gareth Wigdahl and Linda Molloy beat Rufforth fourths in division 11 and followed this with another victory at Cliffe, inspired by Robert Rhodes and Simone James, to take top spot.
