PICKERING Town Council is to contact maintenance chiefs at Ryedale District Council about the town's unpleasant public toilets.
The Press revealed earlier this week that the ladies' loos in Eastgate were grimy, vandalised, and in some cases, unusable.
Town councillors have now called on Ryedale to improve them.
Coun Judy Dixon said: "They have got to keep up to date with repairs, and there needs to be a programme of checking things through."
Coun Stephen Jenson added: "As a frequent user of the gents' toilets, I regard them as average'."
