THERE’S an exciting line-up of great free street entertainment in store this weekend when York holds Buskival, its first festival of busking.

Performers will be lining the streets at 11 unique busking pitches around the city, and they will be entertaining and wowing audiences with their breathtaking talents.

There will also be a packed programme of buskers outside HomeSense, in Foss Islands Road, which is sponsoring the event.

More than 50 top class street performers will be taking part, among them magicians, musicians, fire-eaters, puppeteers, dancers, face painters, balloonists and more. Free trail maps and performance timetables will be available from the HomeSense information point in Parliament Street.

Coun Sonja Crisp, York City Council’s cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “Buskival is a great opportunity for people to be entertained by the best street artists in York. With a range of activities taking place as a part of the Buskival and Jubilee celebrations there is something for the whole family to enjoy. Be sure to catch a show and be truly astonished.”

Richard Andrews, from HomeSense, said: “It looks like York will be an amazing place to be on the Diamond Jubilee weekend with such a great line- up. We’re pleased to be entertaining York and particularly looking forward to the entertainment on our own doorstep.”
