MAGGOT is back on the menu at Langwith Lakes.

It was used by all the top anglers in an excellent 53-peg turnout that saw a clear-cut win for venue expert Roger Holmes at peg 21 on Emma's Lake.

Despite a number of fish coming unstuck, Holmes still managed to take 74lb to the scales after a day spent fishing single and double maggot at 13m across to the island.

Mick Metcalf led the rest of the field home from peg 19 on Emma's where the same tactics again brought carp to two pounds as he worked his way to a 59lb 4oz tally.

Result: 1 Roger Holmes (Langwith Lakes) 74-0-0, 2 Mick Metcalf (West Park) 59-4-0,3 Andy Simpson (Quaker Tackle) 54-14-0, 4 Shaun Chapman (Langwith Lakes) 50-12-0, 5 Tim Bell (Langwith Lakes) 49-2-0, 6 Ronnie Goldwater (West Park) 47-6-0.

With carp to over 8lb putting in an appearance, the outcome of Sunday's match on Pond Four at the Oaktree Leisure complex remained undecided until the final whistle.

At that point, John Merritt was the front runner with 62lb after a day fishing meat and corn at peg 44.

Working mainly at 12 metres, Merritt extended his recent run of form as carp and bream to five pounds responded well and enabled him to hold off the challenge of Shaun Walker, who took second place.

After drawing peg 34 Walker opted for caster at four metres to find carp and bream, both running to three pounds, as he put together an even 56lb.

Result: 1 John Merritt (Oak Tree Leisure) 62-0-0, 2 Shaun Walker (Quaker Tackle) 56-0-0, 3 Martin Rowell (Quaker Tackle) 48-8-0, 4 Mike Babb, (Quaker Tackle) 41-8-0, 5 Gordon Sennell (Acomb Tackle) 36-4-0, 6 Ray Orr (Oak Tree Leisure) 32-4-0.

Yorkshire Winter League holders Wibsey Angling indicated their intent to hold on to the title as they posted their second straight win on an in-form River Aire around Beal, near Selby, on Sunday.

Wibsey's Paul Bennett easily won the match with an impressive 45lb 5oz haul of bream taken at peg seven.

Using the groundbait feeder with chopped worm and maggot on the hook, Bennett took fish to two pounds to almost quadruple his nearest rival's weight.
