DETECTIVES investigating an armed raid on a York pub have recovered a small amount of cash.

The Press reported yesterday how masked raiders threatened a bar worker during the armed robbery in which £3,000 in small change was stolen from the Punch Bowl, in Blossom Street.

Police say that some of the cash stolen in the raid has since been recovered from a nearby alleyway.

Officers continued to appeal for information about the raid, which happened at about 1.20am on Monday, during which three intruders threatened a pub employee with a firearm after being disturbed.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said three men were seen in the area of the Bar Walls not far from the pub at around the same time. They believe the men escaped on foot.

A source told The Press there was a rumour that one of the men could have filmed the raid on a mobile telephone.

Officers released descriptions of two of the raiders and appealed for anyone who saw them in the area between 1am and 3am to come forward.

The first man is described as Afro-Caribbean, in his early 20s, between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins tall, of a slight build. He was wearing a khaki puffa-style jacket. The second man is described as Asian, in his mid-20s, and between 5ft 11ins and 6ft tall. He was wearing a green or grey puffa-style jacket and a distinctive peaked cap with ear flaps.
