It wouldn’t be a wedding without flowers. From bouquets to buttonholes, they are such an integral part of the proceedings.

Sadly, bouquets are shortlived, and many brides press flowers from their bouquet as a keepsake, but what if you could keep your flowers as a permanent reminder of your happy day?

Young designer Rebecca West has the answer in the form of her beautifully-crafted silk flowers.

With her graphic design honours degree from at Teesside University, Rebecca says she has always enjoyed being creative, and when she became engaged she knew she wanted to make, and stamp her mark, on as many of the accessories for her wedding as she could.

She said: “I started off by creating the invitations and other stationery, then moved on to the flowers. I enjoyed this so much that once I had created my own wedding flowers I started creating bouquets and centrepieces for other people.

“I have always been interested in flowers as it amazes me that something so delicate can be so beautiful, and silk flowers are fabulous as they give you the flexibility to work with blooms from all the seasons at any time of the year.

Rebecca, who set up her business B Beautiful Floral in October 2011, said her aim is to create flowers that brides can treasure for years to come. “I want to make something that is so beautiful that you can’t keep your eyes off it,“ she said.

Hidden secret messages within the bouquet can add an extra touch of intimacy. Rebecca said: “My bouquets allow the bride to conceal a special memento among the flowers to add an extra touch of romance.”

Weddings are family occasions, and Rebecca says that a family loved one who has passed away can be remembered with something simple like an open locket entwined in the bouquet so they are with you when you make that special walk down the aisle.

The possibilities are endless she says, from colour, design and content, your silk bouquet will be created just for you.

Another talented lady, Anne Baker of Silk Floral Art, also creates beautifully-crafted silk flower arrangements, each one unique ands so perfect in every detail you have to touch them to reveal their secret.

Anne, who makes up the arrangements in advance so you can see exactly what you are getting, says: “If you want a particular colour scheme I can dye the flowers to match. You can even have out-of-season and exotic flowers at a fraction of the cost of fresh flowers.

“Take a look my range on silkfloralart.co.uk as this will give you an idea of what can be achieved using silk flowers. Simply choose from the range, or if you have a special wish, contact me and I will create an arrangement to your specific needs.”

As a lasting memory to your big day, Anne can turn your bouquet into a flower arrangement to be enjoyed, and there is no extra charge for this service.

Alternatively, you can rent displays and bouquets from Anne, which is a good way of saving money, especially in these cash-strapped times.

She is currently offering the option to hire a package which includes a bridal bouquet, two bridesmaids’ bouquets, six buttonholes and six small centrepieces.

The other benefit with this option, she says, is that you can pick them up a week in advance, and if changes need to be made, they can be, saving you stress on the lead up to the big day.
