MOTORISTS are facing rush-hour delays on a commuter route in East Yorkshire when major roadworks start later this month.

The five-week resurfacing scheme will start on the A166, between Stamford Bridge and the Full Sutton junction, from Monday, April 16.

The works, which will take place during the daytime and throughout the night, will see the A166 closed to through traffic between Stamford Bridge and the Full Sutton junction between 7pm and 7am Traffic will be diverted via the A1079 Shiptonthorpe roundabout to the A614 Bainton to Driffield road.

Day-time work to lay the final surface and paint road markings will take place simultaneously with the night-time works, but with a convoying system in operation to limit vehicle speeds through the site to 10mph, allowing local traffic access trough the site.

The A166 will remain signed as closed to non-local traffic with the diversion route remaining in operation throughout the day.

Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council is currently undertaking road resurfacing works across the East Riding as part of its road improvement programme.

“It is regrettable that there will be some disruption to residents and road users, which is inevitable with works of this nature, and the council apologises for any inconvenience caused.

“It is important that these works are carried out now, ahead of the busy summer season and to ensure that the road surface is in the best possible order long-term.

“By operating day and night shifts simultaneously the overall programme is reduced by about three weeks.

“A detailed work programme will be produced by the contractor in the near future and our project manager will work with the contractor to ensure that the minimum duration of disruption to traffic is achieved.”
