A POETRY fan from York has received a letter from the Queen thanking her for a poem she wrote to commemorate the year of her Diamond Jubilee.

Dawn Moore, 50, of Leeman Road, received the letter of thanks from Her Majesty after sending the poem to Buckingham Palace.

She said: “I thought I would write something with it being the jubilee year and a time when the Queen might be looking back. I have done quite a lot of poetry and had some published but I was chuffed with this reply.

“I have written to her before and she has replied, but never with a response like this.”

Miss Moore said the poem took her about half-an-hour to compose and though she admitted to not being a royalist, she said she thought it would be nice to write something in the jubilee year.
