PETER WALKER alleges that the Archbishop of York has “opted to take Murdoch’s shilling” (Letters, March 21). It should be noted that the archbishop has received no payment for writing his column in The Sun newspaper.
I would therefore be grateful if Mr Walker would withdraw his allegation. The archbishop writes in a wide variety of newspapers, local and national, and feels it is important to spread the Gospel message as widely as possible.
The archbishop is proud to be archbishop for York and will continue to get on with the job of working hard for local people.
Kerron Cross, Director of communications for the Archbishop of York, Bishopthorpe Palace, York.
