IN Acomb ward we are fortunate in having two first-rate councillors who have always have listened to us.
However, the Government has placed impossible restraints on our council.
I think a grave mistake has been made in the closure of the Beckfield Lane tip.
Every year thousands of visits are made to this facility and many tons of waste are recycled.
The site does need upgrading, but needs must. I can use the site as it is – and would we rather have an ageing site or no site? I think we all know the answer to this one.
People will not go miles on foot to get rid of waste; we don’t all have cars, you know.
Readers are correct in saying people will dump their waste anywhere; who will pay for this removal?
The Labour leader was elected on a promise to listen to the voters. The Acomb voters are shouting loud and clear: “Do not close the skip.”
I suggest James Alexander keeps to his promise to listen and keeps the skip open for the benefit of many people and the environment.
