A FORMER York print worker has died after a short illness.
Tony Smith, 70, worked for many years at the Yorkshire Evening Press as a compositor.
Richard Johns, a friend and former colleague, said: “Tony loved horse racing and enjoyed many days at the races with his wife, Joy.
“He was also partial to a game of dominoes and would often be seen cycling through Osbaldwick on his way to a game at Tang Hall Working Men’s Club. He was a much-loved character who will be missed by many.”
Tony leaves Joy, daughter Madeleine, son-in-law Paul and grandchildren Nathan and Lewis.
A funeral service will take place at York Crematorium on Monday, at 3pm. Family flowers only, but a collection will be made for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The service will be followed by a celebration of Tony’s life at Tang Hall WMC, in Hull Road.
