YORK Indoor Bowls Club won three rinks and amassed a 78-63 aggregate Yorkshire Ladies League victory over Ryedale.

But it was not enough as leaders North Cave beat Redcar 10-0 to take the title.

Away, both York rinks won with Carol Instone’s getting off to a good start. Leading 16-2 after ten ends they went on to win 25-11.

Melanie Brooke’s team earned a 14-13 win after the home side had a quarter of their score deducted because they only fielded three players.

At home, Sheila Turpin’s team were 8-7 down after seven ends but by the 14th led 18-9. They had to withstand a comeback by the visitors who got within two with two ends, but Turpin’s side picked up a two, followed by a single, to win 21-16.

Sue Kirkpatrick’s team trailed 14-8 after 11 ends before picking up five shots over the next three ends to pull within one shot.

But a four, then a two to Lynn Metcalfe’s team, proved too much for the home side as they lost 23-18.

York finished runners-up in the league for the second year in a row.

In the second division, New Earswick lost their final game of the campaign 88-81 to bottom-placed Leeds for a fourth-place finish.

Both home rinks won with Peggy Walker’s getting off to a great start.

Ahead 18-2 after only eight ends they went on to prevail 34-21.

Annette Prosser’s side trailed 15-12 with six ends to go before winning five on the trot to lead 20-15 going into the last, where they dropped only a single.

Away, both teams suffered in the second halves of their games.

Kath Sykes’ side were 11-6 down after ten ends before losing lost 29-11, while Margaret Moss’ were 7-6 up after ten but went down 22-16.

Harrogate made it three wins on the spin as their ladies won the second division crown to match their male counterparts’ success in the men’s second division and over-55s second division.
