EAST Yorkshire is to be one of ten areas across the UK where a pilot project aimed at improving the way heating and insulation improvements for households on low incomes will be run.
The proposed Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO), drawn up by the Government, is designed to cut fuel poverty and carbon dioxide emissions.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be carrying out surveys in the Withernsea area to gauge residents’ views and assess properties to assess how their energy bills could be reduced.
“The council takes the issue of fuel poverty very seriously and is happy to have been selected as one of the pilot areas,” said Coun Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning.
“It is important that councils and other local agencies work together to ensure vulnerable people continue to receive the help they need to stay warm in their homes.”
