CHILDREN at a York school have enjoyed a hearty start to their day with a new breakfast club, thanks in part to a grant from an international company.

Derwent Infant and Junior School was awarded a £450 grant from cereal producers Kellogg’s to help fund their free breakfast club as part of their Give A Child A Breakfast Campaign, launched last year.

Thanks to the scheme, children can be dropped at the school from 8am, and receive cereal, toast and a drink, with time to read and socialise before their lessons begin.

A school spokesman said: “Since the introduction of our free breakfast club, the children have benefited from better concentration and there have been significant improvements in behaviour and achievements. It is a positive way to get children to school on time and in the right frame of mind for learning. The grant will really help our club and we’ll look forward to spending the money on a wide variety of cereals and games for the children.”
