AN inquest has been opened into the death of a teenager whose body was found in the River Ouse.

Jordan Paul Louis Sullivan, 19, of Acomb, went missing on February 14, sparking a huge police search.

York coroner Donald Coverdale told the inquest that on the day of his disappearance, instead of cycling to his work as a travel agent in Heworth, Mr Sullivan cycled towards the water treatment works in Naburn.

Police were called to the area to “some indication someone may be in distress”, but after extensive inquiries found nothing, Mr Coverdale said.

On March 14, staff at Naburn Marina found Mr Sullivan’s body in the river, the court heard.

Mr Coverdale said a post-mortem examination had not yet determined a cause of death.

The inquest was adjourned pending toxicology reports.

While the initial date of death on the interim certificate of death was given as March 14, Mr Coverdale said it could potentially be subject to amendment when the inquest concluded.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Sullivan’s mother, Nicola Jobling, said she considered her son’s date of death to be February 14.
