AN appeal is being launched to raise £120,000 for crucial repairs to a North Yorkshire cathedral is being launched.

Urgent work is needed on defects at Ripon Cathedral following a survey by its architect, Oliver Caroe, who has said failing to act now could lead to “much greater problems” in the future.

The new fundraising drive following the success of a separate appeal to raise £300,000 to restore the historic building’s organ.

Events start on April 4 with a children’s craft session, and include a sponsored walk on April 9, the annual Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival on May 7 and a concert by the Leeds Festival Chorus on July 7.

The Great North Art Show will be held at the cathedral between September 1 and 23, and the city’s tenth annual Angel Dinner in September 28 will also boost the appeal.
