A WELL-KNOWN York pub is due to undergo a £350,000 relaunch, expected to create 20 new jobs.

The management of the Windmill Inn in Blossom Street, which is currently run by independent licensee Paul Gardner, will be taken over by owners Spirit Pub Company under its brand The Original Pub Company.

The Windmill Inn is due to close on Monday, April 2, and reopen on Friday, April 20, with a new look, menu and team.

All four existing staff are expected to continue to be employed by the company, with the creation of a further 20 full and part time jobs.

New general manager, Grahame Bell, who has over 20 years' experience in the pub industry including managing the Crow's Nest in Newcastle city centre, said: “I’m really looking to find bright and enthusiastic individuals who are keen to progress, work well under pressure and as part of a team.”

The new look will include updated décor, furniture, menu, a new bar and an open plan design.

Mr Gardner will continue to run the Cross Keys in Dunnington and The Terrace on the corner of Fossgate and Stonebow.

When Mr Gardner took over the pub in 2010 he also oversaw a refurbishment which saw the Windmill Inn decorated in a similar style to The Terrace.

New positions at the pub include front and back of house roles.
