THE parents of an East Yorkshire student who went missing two years ago believe their son may have travelled to North Yorkshire the day he disappeared after discovering his trainers at their holiday home.

Russell Bohling, a student at Bishop Burton College, was last seen by his family on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, when he was aged 18.

His blue Renault Clio was later discovered abandoned at the car park at Bempton Cliffs, near Bridlington.

Despite a huge search and a lengthy police investigation, the circumstances surrounding Russell’s disappearance has never been solved and his body has not been found.

Mr Bohling’s parents are now calling on police to search the area around Ravenscar after discovering a pair of trainers belonging to Russell there. They believe their son was wearing the trainers the day he disappeared.

Police have said it is most probable Russell had an accident or killed himself, but although his family accept he is most likely dead, they have always believed that someone else was involved.

His mother, Christine, said: “I am sure he was wearing the trainers we found on the day he disappeared. I think someone else had definitely been involved.

“I think he went with someone to Bempton and then got into one car and drove to Ravenscar.”

The grounds around the Bohlings’ Ravenscar home were searched shortly after Russell’s disappearance, but the family want the area searched again.

They had found the trainers in a plastic bag in the garage.

Russell’s father, Roger, said: “The trainers were in a bag with other shoes so we didn’t notice them. We almost threw them away.

“They are Russell’s best shoes so he never took them to Ravenscar because he was out in the countryside up there.

“We think he must have worn them on the day he disappeared and came up here.”

The Bohling family have admitted they have little faith in the police force and last year failed in a bid to take Humberside Police to court over the handling of the investigation into Russell’s disappearance.

North Yorkshire Police carried out an independent review into how the investigation had been handled and its report backed its neighbouring force.

Roger Bohling said: “We were not even sure whether to call the police after what we have gone through. But we felt we had to give them every chance to find Russell. We don’t think they will do anything, but we have to let them know.”

Humberside Police said they would look into the latest development. Anyone with information should contact the force on 101.
