THE campaign to keep the Beckfield Lane recycling depot open has been welcomed with tremendous enthusiasm, particularly across the urban west of York and outlying villages, all of whom feel that they are going to be terribly badly affected by the appalling decision of York’s Labour council.
I’d like to thank the many hundreds of people who have signed the petition so far.
Many people are worried about what will happen to the waste, with fly tipping being a key concern.
Not everyone can drive to the other side of the city. But some people when signing have wondered if the Labour-dominated council will listen.
Well, they might. I have just learned of the success of a similar campaign in Cumbria, that has led to Cumbria County Council stopping plans to axe similar recycling centres.
So, as with the aborted sale of the Union Terrace car park, people power can make a difference, and if you have not already signed then please get in touch.
